Smart Factory
Project Details: To Design a factory for a site in Tullamarine that could maximise the amount of space available on a triangular site. Office space for approximately 20 people.
Stage: unbuilt
Builder:
The initial thoughts for this project came from thinking about the work of Geoffrey Smart. His work that so clearly depicts the industrial Australian landscape seemed appropriate as a starting point. The form of the building became flat as the client asked to have the envelope maximised. Using colour alone for differentiation was insufficient. What happened next was a peeling back of the outer skin of the factory that could reveal a suspended box on the corner which would become the office space. By offsetting the ground condition of this space by 1 meter and tapering it back we increase the visual offset of the upper corner and start to create the appearance of movement. All of this works beautifully in using very standard and ordinary structural techniques.
